It is often said that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but the smile is the door.

The smile is more than just teeth, it involves the way your lips look, the way your chin projects and the way your skin appears around your mouth.

People who are uncomfortable with their lower mouths will smile rarely, or if they do it is in an uncomfortable or covered manner. A bright smile is associated with friendliness, comfort, extroversion and attractiveness.

In youth, generally everything is full, plump, balanced, symmetrical and strong. There are methods to help correct balance and symmetry in youthful patients, and in our older patients we can help restore, rebuild and re-energize the way the face is portrayed.

As we age, the structures of the face start changing due to a range of activities:

  • Bones start to resorb and reduce over time
  • Teeth change in colour and size
  • Gums start to reduce in size
  • Muscles around the mouth become stronger
  • Muscles used in chewing become bigger and bulkier
  • Fat pads move and either become bigger or smaller
  • Skin itself becomes thinner and lips start reducing in size and shape

With all of these changes taking place, we become more and more concerned about how our smile looks and suddenly we don’t look like the person we think we are. It is here that we offer two treatment options for the rejuvination of the face and smile; Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

At Oatlands Dental we only offer premium products for facial rejuvination.

dermal-fillers

Dermal Fillers

Fillers are considered minimally invasive and have very little recovery time – which is often due to the skill of the operator.

They can often provide immediate results that can be adjusted instantly. The fillers that we use contain hyaluronic acid that achieve results which can last between 9-18 months on average.

For those who are experiencing mild sagging and early signs of ageing, fillers can postpone the need for the more permanent surgical solution. For some patients who cannot undergo anaesthesia for surgical reasons, fillers may be the safest solution to problems such as hollow cheeks, sagging jaw line and a weak chin.

anti-wrinkle

Anti Wrinkle Injections

Continued contraction of muscles can cause lines and creases around the face and mouth. By using anti-wrinkle injections carefully in these areas, these lines can be softened. Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat smokers lines, showing too much gum or a gummy smile, ‘golf ball’ or ‘popply’ chin and mouth frown – where the corners of the mouth are being pulled down by muscles, creating a sad looking mouth.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections last between 3-9 months on average.
