HOW OFTEN SHOULD I VISIT THE DENTIST?
At Oatlands Dental, we believe that consistency is key to maintaining dental health and hygiene. Because of this, we recommend six-monthly dental visits.
WHY DO I NEED TO SEE A DENTIST REGULARLY?
By supporting your oral health, the state of your mouth, teeth, and smile will be significantly improved and provide you with a better overall sense of wellbeing. Most oral health issues can be prevented with early and regular treatment, resulting in less lengthy and expensive dental procedures. With early detection, certain dental conditions become more manageable, allowing our dental clinic to provide more effective treatment options. Early detection also ensures that certain oral conditions receive both the intervention and monitoring required. Our dentists can detect and monitor the less obvious dental and mouth issues that you may not be able to see or feel yourself through regular visits. But, most importantly, regular dentist visits ensure you and your loved ones both the peace of mind and confidence that your teeth and smile feel and look healthy.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND IF I’M NOT COMFORTABLE GOING TO THE DENTIST?
By being honest and open with your dentist about any anxiety or discomfort you may feel towards dental procedures, we can strive to make your visits and treatment as comfortable and seamless as possible. We ensure that we are up to date with the technology and innovations that make appointments easier, safer, and more comfortable as a dental practice. Finally, for peace of mind, Oatlands Dental can provide consult appointments to discuss options that are right for you or your loved ones before any treatment is accepted or started. We offer solutions such as Nitrous Oxide (Happy Gas) and IV Sedation.
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE FOR MY CHILD’S FIRST DENTAL VISIT?
Oatlands Dental recommend bringing your child in for their first dental visit at approximately 2-3 years of age. This initial visit may not involve any procedure or treatment. However, bringing your child in at an early age will get them used to our team and environment to ensure there is no anxiety or fear about future visits. Furthermore, early visitation means our dentists can monitor the development of their oral hygiene towards healthy teeth and a happy smile.
CAN I USE MY SUPERANNUATION TO PAY FOR DENTAL TREATMENT?
Yes, you can access your super for dental treatments. Access My Super can help you or any of your dependants to access your super to fund all your dental treatments such as braces, crowns, general dental, implants, orthodontics and periodontics. Check out our Payment Plans for more information.
HOW SAFE IS TEETH WHITENING?
Teeth whitening is one of our safest dental procedures that does not damage teeth or thin enamel. Hydrogen peroxide, the main product used for the teeth whitening procedure, has been studied extensively and is considered very safe when used professionally by a dentist. Although safe, teeth whitening treatment should be done in small amounts and under the supervision of a dentist. Teeth whitening kits that your dentist does not recommend or supervise can be abrasive, cause sensitivity, gum irritation and burn or damage the teeth’s enamel.
ARE DENTAL X-RAYS SAFE?
Dental x-rays are very safe and pose very few risks. Oatlands Dental is equipped with high-speed digital x-rays and lead aprons to limit radiation significantly and ensure that you and your loved ones remain safe during and after any procedures.
SHOULD MY METAL FILLINGS BE REPLACED?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has extensively reviewed the safety of dental amalgam for several years and concluded that, despite a very low risk of adverse side effects, they are very safe. Furthermore, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) also maintain that amalgam is not harmful to patients.
